Studiopolis is the first entirely new zone in Sonic Mania (2017), in third position in the game. This nighttime metropolis devoted to "Egg TV" strings together popcorn machines that catapult you, news vans that teleport from one screen to another, film clapperboards used as springboards, giant reels and stage spotlights, with an Act 1 in the streets and an Act 2 on the sets. Two bosses shape it: the Heavy Gunner, a Hard-Boiled Heavy styled as a policeman whose blue missile has to be sent back, then Eggman's Weather Globe. Written by Tee Lopes, "Lights, Camera, Action!" is one of the most iconic themes.
Summary
Neon lights, TV sets, and giant popcorn machines: Studiopolis Zone is the first major original creation of Sonic Mania (2017), and one of the most beloved. A spotlight on Dr. Eggman's studio city.
🤖 the Hard-Boiled Heavies, its bosses.
🌱 Green Hill Zone, also featured in Mania.
Sonic Mania's first original zone
Studiopolis Zone is the 3rd zone in Sonic Mania (after the remakes of Green Hill and Chemical Plant) — but it is the first entirely original zone in the game. Setting: a nocturnal Hollywood-style metropolis, entirely dedicated to Eggman's TV and cinema ("Egg TV").

A 100% showbiz setting
The level is full of television gadgets: giant popcorn machines that catapult you, news vans that teleport you to reappear through TV screens, film clappers serving as trampolines, giant film reels, and stage spotlights. Act 1 takes place in the streets, Act 2 on the sets.

Two televised bosses
Two confrontations. In Act 1, the Heavy Gunner — one of the five Hard-Boiled Heavies, stylized as a police officer, who flies a jetpack and shoots a bazooka: you have to send his blue missile back to him. In Act 2, the Weather Globe: Eggman at the controls of a weather machine that unleashes rain, wind, and heatwaves on the studio screens (8 hits).
A cult soundtrack
It's impossible to mention Studiopolis without its soundtrack, composed by Tee Lopes. The Act 1 theme, "Lights, Camera, Action!", is one of the most iconic tracks from Sonic Mania, regularly performed in concerts.
Its reappearances
Studiopolis returns in Sonic Mania Plus (Encore mode) and even opens the animated mini-series Sonic Mania Adventures, where Sonic destroys the Heavy Gunner with one blow. It remains one of the most emblematic zones of the game.
