Who is Sage?
Sage is an artificial intelligence created by Doctor Eggman (Ivo Robotnik), his most advanced digital creation, initially designed to explore the ruins of the Ancients' civilization on the Starfall Islands. She appears as a holographic young girl made of data: her default form is black and red, and shifts to white and blue when she expresses emotions.
As a digital being, she can levitate, pass through walls, teleport, and, most importantly, move freely between the real world and Cyberspace — a unique ability that makes her central to the plot. She joins the long gallery of Eggman's creations, but of a new kind.
Her Role in Sonic Frontiers
In Sonic Frontiers, Sage detects a colossal threat on the Starfall Islands and triggers a protection protocol: she attracts the Chaos Emeralds and even deliberately traps Eggman in Cyberspace to keep him safe. She also frees Sonic's friends imprisoned in Cyberspace — Tails, Amy, and Knuckles — which increases the cyber corruption afflicting Sonic's body.
Crucially, Sage discovers what Cyberspace held captive: "The End," a world-destroying entity that had already annihilated the Ancients' civilization. Initially an obstacle on Sonic's path, she gradually realizes that only an alliance with the hedgehog can save everyone.
Sage and Eggman: A Father-Daughter Relationship
The emotional core of Sonic Frontiers is the bond that forms between Sage and her creator. Initially a program, Sage becomes much more than a tool for Eggman: a daughter. The scientist, usually megalomaniacal and detached, grows fond of her, to the point of considering her a family member. It's one of the rare moments where a tender crack appears in the shell of the saga's main antagonist.
The Sacrifice… and the Return
At the end of the adventure, Sage sacrifices herself to neutralize "The End" and save the world. Her last words — "watch over my father" — give the ending its full emotional impact. But the story doesn't end there: in a post-credits scene (the true ending, unlocked on Hard difficulty), Eggman rebuilds Sage from her data, and utters a "that's my girl" that moved the entire community.
In the free expansion The Final Horizon (2023), Sage plays a central role, helps stabilize Sonic's cyber corruption, and survives — permanently retaining her white and blue form.
Her Other Appearances
Since Sonic Frontiers, Sage has become a recurring character in modern Sonic. She makes a cameo at the end of the free game The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog (2023), alongside Eggman and Metal Sonic, sporting a "Let's Go Dad" t-shirt — a perfect nod to her relationship with her creator. She then becomes a playable character in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds (2025).

No Sage without her creator: the Dr. Eggman figure, the scientist who designed and then rebuilt her, is the ideal wink for Frontiers fans.
