The Egg Pawn is the standard foot soldier of Doctor Eggman's army, and the most frequently encountered robot in the entire modern series. First appearing in Sonic Heroes, this orange, dome-headed puppet mirrors the silhouette of its creator. Taken on its own, it amounts to very little; numbers are what make it a threat, together with modular weaponry — spear, bazooka, machine gun, shields — and a family of variants ranging from a levitating mage to a hammer-wielding giant.
The Egg Pawn is a mass-produced humanoid Badnik built by Doctor Eggman and modeled on his own silhouette. It is the main model of the Pawn Series and the bulk of his army's troops.

A robot made in its creator's image
The Egg Pawn is a humanoid robot whose round body and dome-shaped head together form an egg-shaped silhouette. Predominantly orange, with blank cyan eyes, a pointed yellow nose and a glowing mouth: the model reproduces point by point the features of Doctor Eggman.
This is not the first time the doctor has taken himself as a model. The series had already seen the EggRobos of the classic era, designed on the same principle — the Egg Pawn is their modern successor, with an entirely different status: that of a mass-produced trooper.
💡 Blank cyan eyes and a glowing mouth on a domed head: the Egg Pawn is enough to unsettle anyone in the dark. On your bedside table, our Sonic lamps and night lights keep the light on without letting Eggman's army into your bedroom.
The Japanese name is エッグポーン. The word pawn refers to the chess piece, which sums up the function well: an interchangeable, expendable piece whose value lies in numbers.

View the product →Its debut in Sonic Heroes
The Egg Pawn makes its debut in Sonic Heroes, where it immediately becomes the game's most common enemy: it turns up in practically every level, with two exceptions.
Its distinctive design feature is its modular weaponry. Depending on the unit, it carries a spear called an Egg Spear, which gives it reach and makes it charge; an Egg Bazooka, which requires a charging time before firing a laser; or an Egg Gun, an automatic weapon that fires in bursts. Unarmed, it fights with its fists.
Some also carry a shield, whose durability varies from one model to another and which absorbs hits until it breaks. This weapon-and-shield combination turns a trivial opponent into a real obstacle as soon as it appears in groups.
🔧 Egg Spear, Egg Bazooka or Egg Gun, with or without a shield: the Egg Pawn's modular weaponry changes from one unit to the next. With our Sonic LEGO sets, you decide which piece goes where, right there on your table.
A family of variants
The chassis has served as the basis for a whole line. The Egg Bishop, which also appeared in Sonic Heroes, adopts the trappings of a mage — hat, robe, sceptre — and levitates. The Egg Bommer, introduced in Shadow the Hedgehog, balances on a large ball and juggles bombs.
The Egg Chaser is a flying variant that fires lasers from its wing-shaped arms, usually encountered in squadrons during automated sequences. The Egg Hammer, finally, is a purple and red giant with far heavier armour, wielding the hammer that gives it its name.
The standard model evolves as well. The versions in Sonic Colours and Sonic Generations gain extra armour; those in Sonic Forces adopt a markedly more military design, some being fitted with cannons built into their arms.
🎩 Hat, robe and sceptre: the Egg Bishop has slipped a wizard's trappings over the Egg Pawn's chassis. To take on a new role yourself for a costume party, our Sonic costumes offer the same transformation, minus the levitation.
Its place in Eggman's army
Taken one by one, Egg Pawns are weak robots, with no particular ability, entirely dependent on their equipment. The doctor himself calls them excellent robots relative to their cost — the argument is industrial before it is military.
It is precisely that ratio which makes them the backbone of his forces: where Orbot and Cubot serve as personal assistants and comic foils, the Egg Pawn only exists in the plural. They have even been seen behind the wheel, in the series' racing competitions.
