Who are the Metarex Generals?
They are the four commanders of the Metarex army, under the orders of their leader Dark Oak, in season 3 of Sonic X – the Metarex saga. Exclusive to the anime, they scour space to snatch Planet Eggs, the life cores of planets, and take turns facing Sonic's team aboard the Blue Typhoon.
With Dark Oak, they form the five Metarex leaders who, along with Cosmo, are the last six survivors of their race. A nuance: Dark Oak is the leader and father of Cosmo; he is not one of the four generals.
Robots... that are plants
The season's big twist also applies to them: they are not real robots. Their silhouette of giant mechanical monsters is merely a Metarex armor. Inside is an organic body: a large plant-creature resembling Cosmo, because they are male Seedrians – the plant species of the young heroine.
Like Dark Oak, they are former warriors from the planet Green Gate, who forged cybernetic bodies after the destruction of their world. Their true faces only appear when their shell is broken in combat.

The four generals have distinct roles and temperaments.
Pale Bay Leaf is the strategist, Dark Oak's second-in-command and the most tactical of the commanders. Insectoid silhouette, pale green armor, he wields two swords and flies; cruel, he betrays his allies without remorse.
Yellow Zelkova is the brute: a stocky, gorilla-like colossus with massive yellow armor, who considers himself the strongest Metarex and for whom strength is the answer to everything.
Black Narcissus is the vain manipulator: a slender body in black armor, a single large purple eye, a cape, and a staff topped with a mirror. Treacherous, he repeats that "understanding the enemy is the key to defeating them."
Red Pine, finally, is the composed one: the calmest of the five, fleet commander and battleship commander, but also the least present on screen.
The order of their fall
The generals fall one by one. Red Pine is the first: he never fights Sonic in a duel, acting remotely from his flagship; when Cosmo ejects a Planet Egg, a gravitational well opens and sucks in his battleship – he is therefore not killed by Sonic.
Next comes Yellow Zelkova, who develops a warrior's rivalry with Knuckles: his "special" shield, tinkered by Dr. Eggman himself (the Metarex and Eggman temporarily ally out of self-interest), eventually gives way under the echidna's fists.
The final fusion
The two trickiest ones remain. Black Narcissus and Pale Bay Leaf go all the way: at the climax of the season, they fuse with Dark Oak to form Final Mova, the giant, three-headed dragon-like plant entity.
This final battle is the longest confrontation in all of Sonic X, spread over three episodes. The two generals therefore disappear, merged into their leader, in a final attempt to complete the Forestation – before being defeated by Cosmo's sacrifice.
