Each triplet receives a medallion at birth that transforms into an instrument-weapon, and this is where people often get it wrong: Sonia's is a keyboard (Sonic has the guitar, Manic the drums). Sonia is also the most physically complete. She is the strongest of the three hedgehogs — she lifts heavy loads and breaks barriers —, she masters karate and gymnastics, has a photographic memory (maps, codes, enemy plans), and rides a pink motorcycle fast enough to keep up with Sonic.
A Separate Continuity
It must be repeated, because it is the key to understanding the character: Sonic Underground is not compatible with the games. One dubbing detail is always amusing: in the original version, Sonia's speaking voice is that of Jaleel White — Steve Urkel from Family Matters — who voices all three hedgehogs himself. Only Sonia's singing voice is female (Stevie Vallance).
Sonia is also the only triplet to experience romantic plots: engaged at the beginning of the series to the snobbish mink Bartleby MontClair (an engagement she breaks off for the resistance), she then experiences a mutual crush with Knuckles. Like the entire series, her story remains unresolved: canceled after 40 episodes, Sonic Underground never showed the long-awaited reunion with Queen Aleena.
