A Robotic Double from the Classic Era

Mecha Sonic (sometimes "Mecha Sonic Mk. II") is a robotic replica of Sonic built by Eggman, who appeared in Sonic & Knuckles (1994). In his normal form, he is blue, imitating the real Sonic, and replicates his movements: curling into a ball, agility, and flight thanks to a back booster.

🎒 To get Mecha Sonic airborne, Eggman bolted a booster onto his back; on yours, our Sonic backpacks and school bags won't get you off the ground, but they will carry your notebooks all the way to school.

The Boss of Sky Sanctuary

Mecha Sonic is the guardian of Sky Sanctuary Zone, the last obstacle before the Death Egg. For Sonic, he offers a three-wave confrontation, a true nostalgic mini-best-of of old bosses. For Knuckles, he is the central antagonist: he destroys EggRobo before confronting the echidna.

Super Mecha Sonic

The highlight: in Knuckles' story, Mecha Sonic seizes the Master Emerald to transform into Super Mecha Sonic, a golden and super-powerful version — one of the very first examples of a robot achieving a "Super form," a mechanical mirror of Super Sonic.

🌙 It took the Master Emerald for Mecha Sonic to trade his blue for a golden Super form; at home, the evening change of outfit is far more modest and simply means slipping into our Sonic pyjamas.

Four Robots Not to Be Confused

The Sonic universe has several robotic doubles that should not be confused: Metal Sonic (Sonic CD, 1993), Silver Sonic (the Death Egg robot from Sonic 2), Mecha Sonic (this one, Sonic & Knuckles), and Metal Knuckles. Each has its own game and design.
