Belgog's Actual Effect

Contrary to some misconceptions, Belgog's effect is solely about evasion: it makes the equipped character much harder to hit by reducing the probability of being hit. It does not modify the Defense stat and grants no numerical bonus; this evasion effect is simply enhanced by trading.

Obtaining Belgog

Belgog is obtained by hatching Chao eggs found during the adventure. The hatching result is random, and it is possible to obtain the same Chao multiple times depending on the player's luck.

Improvement through Trading

To level up Belgog, you must engage in trading (Local Wireless) with other players. A Chao can reach up to level 3, which generally involves trading it twice (with two different people according to reference explanations).

Strategic Use

Belgog is relevant if you want to secure:

  • a character often targeted (or whom you intentionally expose),
  • a fragile party member who needs to stay alive (healing/PP/utility),
  • long battles where taking less damage makes a difference.

Chao Context in Sonic Chronicles

Sonic Chronicles uses a different Chao system than Sonic Adventure: no garden, no breeding, no "living" evolution. Chao are managed like equipment in menus and can be strengthened through trading.

For collection purposes, sources most often indicate a total of 40 Chao (of which 39 can hatch from eggs, plus Cheese as number 40). The Viral Chao constitute a separate group, intended for event distributions.
