Agent Stone (Agent Rock): Robotnik’s loyal assistant

Agent Stone — renamed “agent Rock” in the French dub — is Dr. Robotnik’s devoted assistant, a human character created specifically for Paramount’s movie trilogy and played by Lee Majdoub from 2020 to 2024.

A henchman expanded at Jim Carrey’s request

In the early scripts for Sonic the Hedgehog, the doctor’s assistant had a bare-bones role. It was Jim Carrey who asked for someone to play off in the scenes where Robotnik was alone on screen, and screenwriters Pat Casey and Josh Miller agreed to flesh the character out accordingly.

The result is a case apart: a human created specifically for Paramount’s Sonic movies, with no counterpart in any other continuity. Named Agent Stone in the original version, he becomes “agent Rock” in the French dub and “Duroc” in the Quebec version.

Cast in September 2018, Lee Majdoub plays him from the very first film, released on February 12, 2020 in France — two days before the United States. In a saga populated by creatures from another world, from Sonic to the guardian owl Longclaw, this zealous assistant represents the entirely human side of the plot.

Film by film: from Green Hills to the Mecha Crab

In 2020, he assists Robotnik in the investigation into the blackout in Green Hills, Montana: he “translates” the doctor’s condescending lines for Major Bennington, retrieves one of Sonic’s quills on his boss’s orders and stays with him all the way to the Piston Pit. At the end of the film, Robotnik, exiled on the Mushroom Planet, decorates a rock in his assistant’s likeness — moss beard, carved smile — and gives it his name.

In 2022, his status changes: now the owner of the Mean Bean Coffee Café in Green Hills, he ships Robotnik a pod of equipment by satellite, turns the place into a base of operations, then ends up co-piloting the Giant Eggman Robot — a machine built by the doctor thanks to the power of the Master Emerald. After reading the manual, he crushes the Tornado’s wings with the “’Stache Smasher”.

Surviving the collapse of the giant robot, he escapes G.U.N. disguised as a soldier and overhears Commander Walters talking about Project Shadow. That, right at the very end of the second film, is his one and only infiltration of the organization.

In Sonic 3 (2024), after months spent in hiding with Robotnik inside the Mecha Crab, he leads Team Sonic to the mech by motorbike — “Tokyo Drift” for Sonic, “Goat Milker” for Knuckles — and strikes up a temporary alliance with them. During the infiltration of G.U.N. headquarters in London, it is Ivo and Gerald Robotnik who enter the building: he stays in the Mecha Crab with Shadow, between “revenge guac” and the telenovela La Última Pasión.

The Austrian goat milk latte, a running gag

It all starts with a line from the first film: “I just thought you might like a latte with steamed Austrian goat milk.” The steamed Austrian goat milk latte immediately becomes the character’s trademark, at once proof of servile eagerness and genuine barista talent.

The gag frames the trilogy: in his farewell in the third film, Robotnik comes back to it almost word for word — “I’ll miss your lattes with steamed Austrian goat milk”, adding that he loves the way he makes them. The loop opened in 2020 closes in the final livestream of 2024.

That talent is not universally admired, however: in the official comic Sonic the Hedgehog 2: The Official Movie Pre-Quill, which belongs to the films’ expanded canon, his former boss Karen compared his lattes to cottage cheese. The same comic credits him with latte art training at the Istituto de Caffè in Milan — a detail absent from the films themselves.

“Syco-friend”: comic servility, real friendship

Sonic Wiki Zone describes him as the doctor’s assistant and best friend, and the trilogy documents that devotion gesture by gesture: put-downs taken without flinching, a latte served at just the right moment, a supply pod, a comeback staged from his café, a final warning call. The limitless rise of Robotnik never dents his loyalty.

The third film gives him an unexpected rival: Gerald Robotnik, the grandfather, whose arrival stirs his jealousy — the VR headset scene shows him giving up on serving his lattes, crestfallen. His mistrust proves well founded: suspecting Gerald of playing a double game, he calls Ivo to warn him, but Ivo hangs up.

Then comes the final livestream, which he watches in tears: before his sacrifice and presumed death, Robotnik publicly acknowledges him as his “syco-friend” — more than a sycophant, a friend. A secondary antagonist listed as “Neutral” by the wiki and a temporary ally of Team Sonic in that same film, he was never a pure villain, rather a man with a single boss.

Games, comics, the Knuckles series: where (not) to look for him

Of all the Sonic adaptations, the Paramount continuity is the only one in which this character exists: no appearance in the SEGA games — his only listed “presence” on the game side is the promotional Sonic the Hedgehog 3 cartridge, a movie promo item — nor in the main IDW comics, nor in Sonic Boom or Sonic Prime. He is also absent from Paramount+’s Knuckles series, whose G.U.N. agents are named Willoughby and Mason.

The films’ expanded canon, on the other hand, gives him a few pages: the novelizations of the first two films and the Pre-Quill comic, which fills the gap between 2020 and 2022 — hired as a plain barista at Karen’s Coffee, he takes control of the place in a week and has his boss accused of money laundering.

On the voice side, Jérémy Prévost dubs him in French under the name “agent Rock” (directed by Hervé Rey, Studios de Saint-Ouen) and Renaud Paradis in the Quebec version as “Duroc”. Lee Majdoub, a Lebanese-Canadian actor born in 1982 in Tripoli, has also been announced in the cast of Sonic 4, due on March 19, 2027 — with no plot details known as yet.
